Done with the white hill towns, we headed south to the coast. Rick Steves does not like the coast… the direct quote from him is “Much of Spain’s south coast is so bad, it’s interesting. Anything resembling a quaint fishing village has been bikini-strangled and Nivea-creamed. Oblivious to the concrete, pollution, ridiculous prices, and traffic jams, tourists lie on the beach like game hens on skewers. “
So, obviously we were excited to check it out… And we took our trusty Enterprise rent-a-car Range Rover south. We decided to go a longer route (~3 hours) and make a lunch stop in Marbella which was supposedly one of the nicest coastal cities and then hit the Birkenstock outlet store in Malaga on our way to our next lodging in Nerja.
