Italy Saves the Day Again (Milan)

Categories:

After the horrible air pollution in Santorini, we left after only one night. But where to go? Santorini (thankfully) has an airport (many of the Greek islands do not), so we looked at options flying out the next day, cross-referenced the air quality in those places and decided on Milan. Ryan had been once for work a few years ago and loved it, and we already knew we loved Italy, so it was an easy yes.

We arrived in Milan to rain – keep in mind we sent our rain coats and colder weather gear back to London just 2 weeks ago. But the air was fresh and clear, and Italian food was in abundance, so that counts as a win for us! Here are some of the things we ate:

Milan is a beautiful, sophisticated city, and it’s also the fashion capital – certainly for Italy, and it rivals Paris for the global title. We were a little worried we wouldn’t be stylish enough with our limited wardrobe selected mostly for beach weather, but we learned there are normal, unstylish people there too. Phew.

Milan definitely felt like a real city, with people that have stuff to do (we noticed people seemed to walk really fast here). Many of the buildings are covered in ivy and plants, which is beautiful. The architecture is fabulous – both the big, famous buildings but also the normal blocks of apartment buildings and offices. And one of the gardens between apartment buildings had a flock of flamingos living in it!!
