We enjoyed our time in Elounda and eastern Crete very much (even if the hotel was a little questionable) and were excited to see more of the island. We drove ~3 hours to Chania in the west of Crete which is a biggish town (~120k people) that comes highly recommended. We are staying in what looks to be a nice house just outside of town right on the beech with a private pool. Should be great.
